Liverpool has reached an agreement to sign forward Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. According to ESPN Soccer, the deal is valued at €140 million (£120M / $163M), with a guaranteed minimum of £100M ($116M). The 23-year-old French international is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Premier League club and is currently awaiting permission from Paris Saint-Germain to travel to Anfield for a medical examination.

The move follows a period of intense negotiations where Liverpool initially faced a valuation from Paris Saint-Germain of £145M ($197M), according to ESPN Soccer. However, a breakthrough occurred overnight, resulting in the current figure which is significantly lower than the initial quote. Earlier this month, PSG rejected an offer estimated at roughly £90 million ($122.3m) while seeking a fee closer to £135 million ($184.2m), according to ESPN Soccer.

Impact on Squad and Financials

Barcola’s arrival marks the second-most expensive acquisition in Liverpool’s history, trailing only last summer’s signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for £125M ($145.5M), as reported by ESPN Soccer. The club has prioritized strengthening its wide areas following the departure of Mohamed Salah to Trabzonspor on a free transfer this month.

For Paris Saint-Germain, the sale is viewed as “extremely well” progressing according to BBC Sport Football. Having signed Barcola for £38m, the French side stands to triple their investment if all contractual add-ons are met. The winger had been competing for minutes against Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at PSG before opting for a move to England.

Barcola is currently awaiting permission from Paris Saint-Germain to travel to Liverpool for a medical examination, according to ESPN Soccer. While the player has agreed to personal terms with Liverpool, he was not initially forcing a departure from France. All parties believe the transfer can be finalized before the September 1 deadline.

The acquisition may influence the future of Cody Gakpo, who is currently being monitored by both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, according to ESPN Soccer.

Additionally, Nottingham Forest has reached an agreement to sign Chelsea forward Liam Delap. The deal involves an initial fee of £45 million ($61m) plus £5m ($7m) in add-ons, according to ESPN Soccer. Delap joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town for £30 million ($41m) last year but scored only one Premier League goal in 28 appearances during his first season at Stamford Bridge.
