Jed York, the principal owner and chief executive of the San Francisco 49ers, has entered a no contest plea regarding criminal charges following an arrest in Ohio. The legal proceedings concluded with York accepting punishment for two specific counts without admitting guilt. According to Guardian Football, he was sentenced to one day in jail—to be served concurrently for both counts—alongside a $1,150 fine and a requirement to finish an online course.

The charges stem from an incident at a trailer park in East Palestine, Ohio, on a Sunday morning. While KRON4 News originally reported that York was detained on suspicion of engaging in prostitution, the charge was later amended to disorderly conduct. He also faced a charge for possessing criminal tools, though the specific nature of those tools was not identified in the arrest report.

The New York Post stated in court documents that York had interacted with an online advertisement and “arranged to have sexual activity with [a] female in exchange for $140.” The East Palestine police department and the Mahoning Valley human trafficking taskforce were involved in the operation that led to his arrest. York, who is 46 years old, grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, just 30 minutes away from the location where he was apprehended.

York’s legal issues extend into European football through his involvement with 49ers Enterprises. The investment firm holds significant stakes in both Leeds United and Rangers FC. According to BBC Sport Football, York is not involved in the daily operations of Rangers, which saw a 51% majority stake acquired in May 2025 by a US-led consortium including businessman Andrew Cavenagh.

The ownership structure for these clubs has evolved over several years. 49ers Enterprises began investing in Leeds United in 2018 while the club was still in the Championship. The firm eventually took full control of the English side in 2023 after it returned to the Premier League. The NFL confirmed in a statement that it is “aware of the matter which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy.” Since York assumed day-to-day control of the 49ers as chief executive in 2008 and became the principal owner in 2024, the team has reached three Super Bowls, though they were defeated in each instance.
